Batsmen have let us down in this series- Chetan Sharma on Oval Test

Team India’s performance has gone from disappointing to worse, and the loss at the Oval has been appalling. What has been more disappointing has been the way Indian batsmen have approached the last two matches in this series. There was hardly any resistance from them and the kind of shots they have played in both the innings of this Test match has left all the cricket lovers clueless.

This is indeed team India’s one of the worst t est performances overseas and many questions will be asked from this team especially the young players who had the responsibility of carrying the Indian batting on their shoulders.

I’m also surprised with the kind of technique and body language that has been shown by the Indian batsmen in the last few innings. Except for MS Dhoni’s knock of 82 in the first innings, no other Indian batsme n showed any determination or fight to take the English bowling and as a result in both the innings of this match, the batting order has collapsed like a pack of cards.

Players like Virat Kohli and Cheteshwar Pujara will have to reassess their technique when playing in conditions like England, as they always were in trouble against the moving ball. Experienced players like Gautam Gambhir too failed to deliver in this Test and he always looked short of confidence when at the crease. I’ve never seen Gautam struggle so much against fast bowlers as he is someone who always works hard on his batting and shows a strong technique against swing bowling.

With the nightmare now over for Team India in form of this Test series, they now have to look at the ODI series and work ways out to convert their failure into success. Having said that, this performance against England will not be forgotten by the Indian fans easily.
