Once again it has been a very tough outing for India at the Oval. From being restricted to 148 runs in the first innings to England yet again moving towards a total of 400 plus, Team India’s comeback in this Test match is going to be an uphill task.

The Indian bowlers did a decent job in the last two sessions, but their first innings total of 148 is always going to hurt no matter what they do. And a result, England are comfortably sitting on a lead of 237 runs with three more wickets.

India’s worry in this series has been that there has never been consistent performances from either batting or bowling. It has failed to perform as a unit – except for the Lord’s Test – and that’s why this is turning out to be one of the disastrous tour. The only highlight for me from India’s performance in this Test has been the bowling of Varun Aaron and R Aswhin, who I believe should have been given more games in this series. While Varun can fox the batsmen with his speed, Ashwin is someone who will always get you wickets with his variations no matter how the wicket is.

Team India can now only hope that, their batsmen in the second innings do something extra-ordinary to take this Test towards a draw.
