Challenge for Team India now to make a comeback in this series – Chetan Sharma on Rose Bowl test

India’s loss to England in the Rose Bowl Test has been one of their worst overseas performances in recent times. Nothing clicked for Team India in this Test match and they were made to look like an ordinary side by the England Team in every department of the game. One has to praise England here and give them full marks for their superb performance as they came into this Test with a lot of pressure after losing the Lord’s Test. They dominated this test in every session that they played and as a result they happened to be on the winning side.

Team India will be very disappointed with the way they have played in this Test and the kind of approach their batsmen have showed at the Rose Bowl. The failure of Indian batsmen can be gauged from the fact that none of the batsmen were able to score a century in this Test nor was there any big partnership in both the innings. There has not been even a single remarkable performance from any individual in this match from which they can take any hope from – be it bowling or batting. More questions will be asked in the Indian dressing room from the Indian batsmen who surrendered against off-spinner Mooen Ali in this Test and looked clueless against spin. Their failure to tackle spin, which is one of the main strengths of Indian batting in the past , was even more disheartening to watch.

Whereas for England, this win will boost their confidence immensely in this series and it will help them comeback even stronger in the next Test. India now needs to do some serious introspection before they move to the fourth Test at Manchester from 7th Aug, as they shouldn’t once again find themselves on the losing side in an overseas series.
