“If batsmen come out and play like that and everybody performs nicely, you need to give credit score to the opposition.” These were Indian captain Virat Kohli’s words after facing a defeat off Sri Lanka’s hands.

A win over Sri Lanka could have taken India closer to a spot in the semifinals. But Sri Lanka managed to attain what Champions Trophy badly needed. Kohli simply feels that they had been outplayed by Sri Lanka.

India’s bowling and batting could have been better, at this statement Kohli replied,”I feel Sri Lanka performed nicely. That truth can also be current. We’re enjoying in opposition to a group. We’re not playing amongst ourselves.”

“If batsmen come out and play like that and everyone plays well, you have to give credits to the opposition as well. We’re not invincible,” he added. “We are playing against other sides who are also champions sides.”

Kohli added they might also address the issue of scoring charges rates which he did not find too worrisome. “From the batting point of view, as I said, I thought we paced it well.”

“I thought we had enough on the board. In hindsight, when you look back, maybe you think of phases that we could have accelerated, but I don’t see that as a major issue.”

“Maybe we will have to push harder now in the next few games to give us a 20-run cushion. Maybe after seeing a result like this, because we’re playing on the same ground as well,” Virat said
