India’s opening slot is sorted according to coach Anil Kumble. He said that KL Rahul and Murali Vijay will continue to open for the Indian team. India also have Abhinav Mukund in the side for the one-off Test against Bangladesh.

The one-off Test between India and Bangladesh will start February 9 in Hyderabad. Both India and Bangladesh have named a strong squad for the game, which is termed as a historic Test for Bangladesh in many ways.

“I don’t think the opening slot is a concern at all,” Kumble said. “Vijay and Rahul have played wonderfully well in the last series. It’s just that you need a back-up. As far as we are concerned, openers have had (injury) issues.”

“Abhinav brings in not just the experience of playing at the international level but also lots of runs in the domestic season gone by. So he is in good form. And it’s a reward for what he has been able to achieve in the domestic circuit.”

The Indian coach also revealed that allrounder Hardik Pandya might be given a go against Bangladesh.

“He hasn’t been tested in the longer format. But we believe that if he is part of this mix,” Kumble insisted. “Whenever the opportunity comes, we will try him out. In the future, whenever we travel outside India.”
