Ajinkya Rahane to implement playing patterns of MS Dhoni against Zimbabwe

Ajinkya Rahane

Ajinkya Rahane is newest to join captain’s club of the Indian cricket team, as he will fill-in for MS Dhoni in the forthcoming limited-over tour to Zimbabwe, starting July 10 in Harare.

In the absence of senior players like Dhoni, Suresh Raina and Virat Kohli, Rahane has the responsibility of leading the second-string Indian cricket team in three ODIs and two T20I.

It would be a challenging task for Rahane, who has limited experience of leading the side, but the Mumbai-born said he has observed Dhoni’s playing patterns, which would help him against Zimbabwe.

“I have observed planning patterns of MS Dhoni as well and all such instances will help me when I am captaining the side in Zimbabwe,” Rahane said.

Rahane has played under Dhoni, Kohli, Steve Smith and Shane Watson, but the Mumbaikar said it is required to back own instincts, like Dhoni.

“You have to believe in your own abilities and trust your instincts to come good,” Rahane said. “Even Dhoni is someone who backs his instincts. I will do the same and keep things really simple.”
