Even before he dreamt of not coaching India, former Test captain Anil Kumble had put ‘his stint with the national team’ at stake during the Australian series at home to ensure that Kuldeep Yadav gets his dues.
Kumble even went against the wish many in the dressing room. In the end, his stupendous backing paid rich dividend. Yadav proved his worth in the series-decider against Australia in Dharamshala.
The left-arm chinaman took four wickets in the Australian first innings and immediately made a statement. He also knew that he had in him the stuff of which legends are made. After all, he was backed by the legend himself.

From that Dharamshala Test, Yadav went from strength to strength. He failed to make the cut for the Champions Trophy. But, he grabbed the opportunity with both hands against the West Indies.
He had a great start to the Sri Lankan series. Against the SL Board President’s XI, Yadav took four wickets. He now has already staked claim to be part of the playing XI in the series opener in Galle.
In all probability, he should play in the opening Test match, with Ravichandran Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja. The Indian spin trio is something, which could be the story of the three-match Test series against Sri Lanka.
