After Indian Cricket Board’s decision of taking the Indian Premier League out of Maharashtra, the defending champions Mumbai Indians have opted Jaipur as their new home for the ongoing season.

The defending champs had to chose among Jaipur, Kanpur and Raipur, and they expressed their desire to play at Jaipur’s Sawai Man Singh Stadium, according to IPL chairman Rajeev Shukla.

“We had given Mumbai Indians three options, Jaipur, Kanpur and Raipur. The Mumbai Indians told us that they would like to play their home matches at the Sawai Man Singh Stadium in Jaipur.

“Accordingly, the IPL and IMG officials will be going to Rajasthan tomorrow in order to to speak to the state government,” Shukla told in Kanpur on Sunday.

Earlier, newcomers Rising Pune Supergiants had asked to make Visakhapatnam their new home venue, and now they will be shifting their base to the port city.

The Bombay High Court had asked the IPL to shift matches from drought-hit Maharashtra to some other place. Mumbai, Pune and Nagpur were set to host the matches.

Pune is a base of Rising Pune Supergiants, Mumbai Indians play their home matches at the Wankhede Stadium, while Kings XI Punjab were playing some of their matches in Nagpur.
