The Indian team will open its Champions Trophy campaign against Pakistan on June 4. It would be a perfect opening game for India to kick-start their campaign against archrivals in their Pool B opener.

Beating Pakistan won’t be the only agenda for the Indian team, as they would be aiming for a bigger prize. Pacer Irfan Pathan is hopeful that India would replicate its 2013 show and retain the trophy under Virat Kohli.

“I am very hopeful that the India can repeat the performances of the 2013 Champions Trophy,” Pathan said. “I was also part of that side and I feel that the Indian squad of today are strong contenders to become champions.”

“The Indian ODI team has been playing well in recent times and the players selected for the Champions Trophy squad have been in top form as well,” he added. “Look at the examples of Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Mohammed Shami.”
