Veteran off-spinner Harbhajan Singh has said that Rahul Dravid and Zaheer Khan should be given coaching roles with the Indian Cricket Team.
The Indian Cricket Board (BCCI) has to appoint the coach before the Zimbabwe tour, starting June 11, as the team is without any senior figure since the departure of Ravi Shastri, whose contract expired after the World T20.
Harbhajan said that Dravid should be given the head coach’s role because of the experience he has, while Zaheer should be made the bowling coach.
“If you ask me, then I would like to see Rahul Dravid as India coach and Zaheer Khan as our bowling coach,” Harbhajan said. “I believe they can make a difference with their experience.”
“But this is my opinion,” he added. “There are people who will decide on this matter.”
India Test captain Virat Kohli has backed his current Royal Challengers Bangalore coach Daniel Vettori for Indian Cricket Team coach job.
“I spoke to him (Vettori) a while back,” Kohli has said. “We have spoken to a few other people as well and everyone knows about it.”
Harbhajan, meanwhile, also backed the choice of the Test captain saying that Vettori can also be a good choice, if chosen by the board.
“Yes, Vettori can also be a good choice,” Harbhajan said. “I believe between these three, anyone could be a good choice.”
