Virat Kohli, captain of the Indian Test team, has backed former New Zealand captain Daniel Vettori for Indian Cricket Team coach job.

The Indian Cricket Board (BCCI) is currently in search of a new coach, and they are to take a call on it prior to the limited-overs series against Zimbabwe.

Kohli has confirmed that he had a chat with Vettori, who is the coach of Royal Challengers Bangalore, and approached the kiwi to take up the role.

“I don’t see it as a controversy at all,” Kohli said. “All these things do come up in a scenario when you have to appoint someone (coach).”

“I don’t know how it has come out now. I spoke to him a while back,” he added. “We have spoken to a few other people as well and everyone knows about it.”

Kohli, meanwhile, didn’t reveal names of others he has spoken to. “You guys seem to know more about it, so I will wait for your (media) verdict on that,” he said.

The Indian team is without any head coach since the departure of Duncan Fletcher. Since then the team’s affairs were taken care by Ravi Shastri, who was working as the directory, but his contract too ended after the World T20.
