“If you are persistent, you will get it. If you are consistent, you will keep it.” Who else would know it other than the Australians!

Given a stiff target of 349 to win in the 4th ODI in Canberra, Shikhar Dhawan and Virat Kohli displayed great batting skills, but could not help their team from losing the match from a winning position.

From a score of 277 for one, India were bundled for 323, losing the game by 25 runs. On a flat deck, Australia first made 348 for eight after choosing to bat first.

In reply, India were cruising towards a win when John Hasting changed the course of the match. India lost Dhawan and captain MS Dhoni within a span of three deliveries off Hastings.

From there, India fell like a pack of cards. It reduced to such a level that India gave a wicket maiden to Kane Richardson in the 46th over of the match.

Eventually, Richardson took five wickets to put Australia in the driver’s seat. This match was one of the most dramatic turn around in recent ODI cricket history.

Earlier, Aaron Finch (107) made a fine century for the hosts and were ably supported by David Warner (93). Towards the end, Australian captain Steve Smith (51) and Glenn Maxwell (41) put the perfect icing on the cake to take the score to a very competitive levels.

For India, Ishant Sharma and Umesh Yadav took four and three wickets, respectively, but they conceded too many runs to the opposition.

While chasing, India were off to a flying start and added 65 runs for the opening wicket. Rohit made an important 25-ball 41. Thereafter, Dhawan and Kohli took over the centre stage and almost toyed with the Australian bowling.

The sheer intent with which these two Delhi cricketers batted was purely a treat to watch. By the time, Dhawan got out after scoring his 9th century, India were on course for a win with a run-a-ball equation.

Dhawan also became one of the fastest to make 3,000 ODI runs with the help of 72 inning. As long as he was at the crease, India were in with a chance.

Kohli too was one of the big factors behind India’s spirited batting display. He also made his 25th century, his second century on the trot in the series. But like last time in Melbourne, even this knock was in vain.
