The Border-Gavaskar Trophy has slipped from India’s hold, but there’s still plenty to play for the touring party in the 4th Test at the Sydney Cricket Ground. India would be hoping to save the blushes in the final match of series and salvage some pride.

India would be without the services of cool, composed Mahendra Singh Dhoni, who hanged his boots after the Melbourne Test in whites. It would be altogether a different challenge for the Indian team as one of the most experienced and dependable player is not in the fray of things.

Virat Kohli, who led the team in the first Test, has been in great touch with the bat but his temperament is under scrutiny. There hasn’t been a single altercation in the series, in which Kohli is not involved in.

“I always like to take his input because of the experience he has in international cricket in facing all sorts of situations,” Kohli said. “I hope I can be as calm as he is. Everyone has different styles but as long as you keep taking in the positives from others, you will improve.”

Meanwhile, the SCG deck is the closest to the sub-continent conditions and India could fancy playing two spinners. Axar Patel, who has come in place of Ravindra Jadeja, is in contention of making a debut in whites and might play alongside Ravichandran Ashwin. Bhuvneshwar Kumar might also come into the playing XI, if he was declared fit to compete.

“They are very close to getting there,” Kohli insisted. “They showed that in the second innings of the MCG Test and they know it can be done. I was really excited to see what they did there and I hope they maintain it in the future.”

“Sometimes we become too harsh on our bowlers,” he added. “When our bowlers get hit it is bad bowling but when we hit other bowlers, it is good batting. I have complete faith in my bowlers and I know they can win us Test matches by taking 20 wickets.”
