Can Mohit Sharma make cut for the World Cup?

The Indian pace department looks set for the forthcoming World Cup, starting February 14, with the core lies with Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Mohammed Shami and Ishant Sharma. The only surprise that could happen is the inclusion of Mohit Sharma.

There are not many places available in the Indian squad for the forthcoming World Cup but when the selectors meet in Mumbai to pick the 15-member team, they will have few deliberations to make for the vacant spots.

The selection of Bhuvneshwar, Ishant and Shami is more or less confirmed, seeing their recent performances and the experience they have. The fight will be among Umesh Yadav, Varun Aaron and Mohit for the remaining two places.

Ishant has quite a bit of experience with him and he is a leader of the attack and is it unlikely the selection committee will drop him from the squad. On the other hand, Shami and Bhuvneshwar have been India’s leading bowlers in the limited-overs squad.

Now the fight comes for the remaining two spots, with Umesh Yadav looks to have a better chance of making the cut. Aaron, meanwhile, struggled for rhythm in the Test series and it could fall against him when the squad will be picked.

Mohit has been in good form lately and bowled some match-winning spells in Ranji Trophy for Haryana, he could be a surprise inclusion in the squad, as in the international matches as well his record is quite impressive.

The 26-year-old Mohit has just played eleven matches for the men in blue but has impressed one and all with his pacer and consistency. His economy is just over five, which is not bad for a bowler, who bowls mainly in power play.

India requires someone, who could not only pick wickets, but also contain batsmen in crunch situations. Mohit has all these ingredients and he is more than capable of exploiting the conditions Down Under. But, everything depends on the selection committee there may be few surprise inclusions or not.
