Sri Lanka have received a sever jolt in a bid to save the ongoing series against India. The ICC has suspended their captain Upul Tharanga for the next two one-dayers. This means he will miss Sri Lanka’s crucial games against India.

The Lankan Lions are in a must-win situation against India. Moreover, they need to win atleast twice in the next three matches against India to ensure a direct berth in the 2019 World Cup in the United Kingdom.

This has come as a serious blow for the Islanders as they are without their captain now. Tharanga faced the suspension after found guilty of slow over-rate against India in the 2nd ODI in Pallekele.

Andy Pycroft, the match referee, found Sri Lanka three overs short of its target and imposed the suspension. Tharanga accepted match referee’s charges so there was no need of a formal hearing.
