The law of the land is very simple. If you do the best work, you should be given a chance to work more, no matter what. However, things go awry when hierarchy comes into the picture, and no one is willing to challenge that.
For instance a senior members of the team, never mind his form, shall be preferred over juniors. India’s KL Rahul is one such cricketer who is on top of his game, scoring runs at will.
He has developed a lot as a batsmen in the last six months or so. With two back-to-back fifties in the warm-up games against the West Indies Cricket Board President’s XI, KL Rahul has indeed become the toast of the Indian Test team.
Inspite of that, there is no guarantee of Rahul making it to the playing XI in the first Test match against the West Indies. With Shikhar Dhawan being the priority of the team because of his seniority and experience.
Rahul may have to wait his turn. With two centuries from the five Tests that he has played he has all the attributes of a perfect top-order batsmen.
He also has an outstanding batting technique, which is why he was picked in the Indian Test team for the last Australian tour.
Just put yourself into his shoes and you will see how Rahul is itching to go out there and make a mark for his team. He can’t wait to go out there and sweat it out for his country.
He also has the additional skill of keeping the wickets behind the stumps, which makes him a very potent allrounder. What remains to be seen how long the team management can keep him away from the playing XI.
