All-rounder James Faulkner is ruled out of Australia’s opening World Cup encounter against England owing to a side strain and his subsequent involvement will depend upon the scans results.

Australia’s physiotherapist Alex Kountouris has confirmed that Faulkner will remain on the sideline atleast for two weeks, before commencing full-scale practice with the squad.

“He (Faulkner) will receive intensive treatment for the next two weeks before we can determine when he can return to batting and bowling,” Kountouris said.

Faulkner got injured in the tri-series final against England and it is a big jolt for the former world champions as they are already without regular skipper Michael Clarke for the opening match.

Clarke is nursing a hamstring injury and is in race against time to play Australia’s second game against minnows Bangladesh on February 21, the same time Faulkner could join the team as well.
