Former Indian opener, Arun Lal, believes that Indian captain MS Dhoni is the biggest ODI cricketer this game has seen. “To me, Dhoni is the biggest ODI cricketer and I don’t have any doubts about it. He is one cricketer who has inspired everyone to play the game and has shown the world that cricket belongs to everyone.”
Lal added that the players are allowed to express themselves under Dhoni. “A team leader needs to be like Dhoni. He is someone who allows you to express yourself freely all the time,” Lal said.
Former Pakistani pacer, Shoaib Akhtar, opined that Dhoni can easily come up the batting order and bat the way he did in the 2011 World Cup final match against Sri Lanka. But he puts others first.
“Dhoni keeps the other batsmen at the forefront and in that way, you could say he puts the Indian team’s cause first, before himself. He has done so in the past, and continues to do so now,” Akhtar pointed out.
