A bad game against New Zealand is the thing of the past and India are all set to take on their arch-rivals Pakistan in a league match of the World T20 Championship at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata on Saturday.
With so much of noise surrounding this match, there is a huge pressure of expectation on MS Dhoni and his men to deliver the good. Having said that, it is a must win game for the hosts and there is no spare.
In terms of strengths, India are a certainly better batting unit than Pakistan. The spin factor is almost evenly matched and the only area Pakistan are superior to India is in the pace department.
With the likes of Mohammad Amir showing glimpses of great form in recent days, it’s certainly a steep challenge for the Indian batters to come out with flying colour.
Last time, the Indians had faced Amir & Co. during the Asia Cup campaign, only Virat Kohl had come out with a champion cause. He had done it last year as well when India had played against Pakistan during the 2015 World Cup.
The Delhi dasher had a century in that match. Even during the 2012 World T20 Championship Pakistan match in Sri Lanka, it was Kohl all the way.
India would be hoping to see Kohli repeating his form yet again in a big match. But Dhoni would also be hoping to see the other top-order batsmen doing their bit for India.
Starting from Rohit Sharma, Shikhar Dhawan, Suresh Raina and Yuvraj Singh would be needed to step up their game to enhance India’s chance in the match. The Indian bowlers too need discipline to restrict the Pakistan batsmen from scoring freely.
The good thing about Pakistan is that they are coming into this game with a convincing win over Bangladesh in their previous game and their captain showed great all-round qualities.
At the back of their minds, Pakistan would also know they are yet to beat India in a World Cup game and would be desperate to break the jinx!
