India vs Pakistan World T20: Kolkata Clamours for Tickets

The India-Pakistan game at the Eden Gardens on Saturday evening is the biggest show of the World T20 2016.

It really doesn’t matter that the both teams had met only recently during the Asia Cup in Bangladesh before this tournament began.

All that matters is that this is a World T20 game and it can’t get bigger than this. Looking at the magnitude, the demand for the tickets has sky-rocketed in Kolkata like nothing else.

There is an absolutely mayhem in the City of Joy. So much so that the fans are running from pillar to post for the tickets and the local association head and former Indian captain Sourav Ganguly has become the most sought after man in the city.

With only 3000 tickets being sold to the public, not many have a clue about the rest of the 63,000 Eden Gardens tickets.

But the local association has made it clear that those who bought ticket for the India-Pakistan match in Dharamshala, which was the initial venue for the big match, will have to be adjusted in the stadium. Hence, the paucity of tickets.

There is also a huge pressure on Ganguly to cater to the need of the local clubs, who play a big role during the Cricket Association of Bengal elections.

Those who tried to reach out to these clubs for the tickets were treated with a rude shock, as the match passes and tickets are sold at prices — three to four times higher than usual.

It ’s like revisiting Kolkata’s Durga Puja. Only 67,000 would be inside the stadium on Saturday evening, but it looks like that another 67,000 could be waiting outside the Eden Gardens to get the glimpse of the all-important match!
