India’s chances of doing well in the forthcoming World Cup will depend a lot on how Bhuvneshwar Kumar shapes up for the event. Already fit after nursing an ankle injury, Kumar’s rhythm is important for India, if the words of former chairman of the selection committee Krish Srikkanth are to be believed.

“To me, he is one of the most important bowlers in the team,” Srikkanth said. “If he can get into a good rhythm, it will be very good for India. You don’t have to generate pace all the time.

“He has the ability to pitch the ball in the right areas and can also swing the ball either ways. His good form will be very important,” he added.

Bhuvneshwar, who was injured before the Australian series started, came back in to the Test team for the final match in Sydney. He couldn’t perform as per the expectation.

Perhaps, he was still taking some more time to find his rhythm. But with more than a month left for the big event to begin, Bhuvneshwar is expected to be more effective.

Srikkanth also agreed. He exuded confidence that the Uttar Pradesh bowler has it in him to lead the Indian pace attack. “He is also capable of taking early wickets, which is going to be a key for India’s success. He got support from his team as well,” Srikkanth added.
