Ranji Trophy Round-up: Andhra’s Siva Kumar claims seven against Tripura

Faiz Fazal and Ganesh Satish scored centuries to put Vidarbha in an advantageous position against Saurashtra while Wriddhiman Saha was batting on 129 against J&K at stumps. Delhi’s Unmukt Chand and HP’s A Bains also posted tons on the first day.

Andhra’s Siva Kumar claimed 7/30 to skittle Tripura out for 151 while Tamil Nadu’s Rahil Shah claimed a fifer to help bowl UP out on the first day of the sixth round of the Ranji Trophy 2014-15 season. Here are the highlights of the day:

Bengal vs J&K: After early strikes by Ram Dayal and Parvez Rasool left Bengal on 68/4, Wriddhiman Saha and LR Shukla revived the hosts innings with a 144-run stand for the fifth wicket. Batting on 129 at stumps, the wicketkeeper-batsman had powered Bengal to 312/7 by the end of day’s play. He was batting with Ashoke Dinda (11*) at the end of Day 1 against Jammu & Kashmir at the Eden Gardens.

Madhya Pradesh vs Karnataka: Opener Aditya Shrivastava’s 91 followed by half-centuries from Naman Ojha and Harpreet Bhatia helped MP to 270/7 at the end of Day 1. Shreyas Gopal claimed three while Karnataka skipper Vinay Kumar picked two and Udit Patel and Abhimanyu Mithun took a wicket each. At stumps Ankit Sharma was batting on 11 with Saransh Jain on 12.

Railways vs Baroda: Anureet Singh, Aranab Nandi and Ashish Yadav ran through the Baroda middle-order to leave the visitors on 271/7 at the end of first day’s play at the Karnail Singh Stadium. At stumps, PR Shah was batting on 26 with Swapnil Singh on 19.

Tamil Nadu vs Uttar Pradesh: Rahil Shah-led TN attack bundled UP out for 182 after the visitors elected to bat at the MA Chidambaram Stadium. Shah picked 5/63 while Malolan Rangarajan picked two. Piyush Chawla then sent back TN opener U Sushil with five runs on the board while Arish Alam claimed Vijay Shankar later in the day. At stumps, TN were 53/2 with Abhinav Mukund (26*) and Baba Aparajith (1*) in the middle.

Delhi vs Odisha: While Gautam Gambhir and Virender Sehwag returned for 13 and 39 runs respectively, Unmukt Chand kept Delhi afloat with a well compiled century. The opener made 117 before being sent back by Govind Podder. At stumps Delhi were 248/5 with Punit Bisht yet to open his account.

Gujarat vs Punjab: Opting to bat at the Sardar Patel Stadium in Ahmedabad, Gujarat posted 284/4 on the first day against Punjab. Opener PK Panchal made 85 before being sent back by Vinay Choudhary who also accounted for BH Merai. Y Venugopal Rao was batting on 75 with RH Bhatt (37*) at stumps.

Maharashtra vs Rajasthan: Opting to field at their home ground, Maharashtra removed Team Rajasthan’s top five for paltry scores. DJ Muthuswamy claimed PI Sharma with just 18 on the board while Anupam Sanklecha, Samad Fallah, Shrikant Mundhe and Chirag Khurana followed up with wickets at regular intervals to leave the visitors on 102/5. And while Sanklecha dismissed A Akhtar 15 runs later, PR Yadav found an able allay in AS Singhvi to stem the fall of wickets. Not out on 113 at the end of day’s play, Yadav had taken his team to 249/7 on the first day.

Vidarbha vs Saurashtra: Centurions Faiz Fazal and Ganesh Satish propelled Vidarbha to a commanding position on the first day at Jamtha after the hosts opted to bat. While Fazal was sent back by Kamlesh Makvana for 107, Satish was sent back by J Shah for 167. At stumps, S Badrinath was batting on 62 with Shalabh Shrivastava on four.

Andhra vs Tripura: Siva Kumar claimed 7/30 to skittle Tripura out for 151 after Andhra elected to field. However, MB Murasingh sent back both the Andhra openers to leave the hosts on 9/2. M Kaif then held the innings together and was batting on 40 as he took his side to 97/4 at stumps. He was batting with Ricky Bhui (11*) at the end of day’s play.

Himachal Pradesh vs Jharkhand: Although HP lost opener PS Sharma for naught, A Bains and A Kalsi helped the team to 195 on the first day without losing wickets until play was called off on Day 1. At stumps, Bains was batting on 110 with Kalsi on 69.

Hyderabad vs Assam: Electing to bat at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad, Assam were 248/4 at stumps on the first day. Dheeraj Jadhav was batting on 21 with Tarjinder Singh on 25 at close of play on Tuesday.

Services vs Goa: Goa were 253/5 at stumps on Day 1 against Services. Darshan Misal was batting on 65 with S Bandekar on 55 at the end of day’s play. Earlier Sagun Kamat made 84 before returning to the pavilion.
