Bangladesh will host the 2016 Asia Cup for the fifth time, as the tournament will be organised in a T20 format for first time ever, keeping the next year’s World T20 in mind.

“Pakistan raised the point that Bangladesh should host next year’s Asia Cup and everyone agreed,” Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) president Nazmul Hassan said.

“Four Test nations will get direct entry while one Associate nation will come through the qualifying tournament,” Hassan added. “We also discussed whether there can be more cricket at the Under-19 level between the Asian countries.”

This is the third successive time Bangladesh organising the Asia Cup, as they alongwith India, Sri Lanka and Pakistan will get direct entries into the tournament.

One non associate team will qualify for the tournament, among Afghanistan, Oman, Hong Kong and UAE. The tournament will be played from February 24.
