Australia vs India: MS Dhoni deemed unfit, Virat Kohli to lead India in first Test

MS Dhoni

Regular skipper MS Dhoni will miss the first Test against Australia at the Adelaide Oval owing to a thumb injury, while Virat Kohli will make his debut as a skipper in whites on Tuesday. “Yes, I will be leading tomorrow,” Kohli said.

Dhoni, who has recently joined the squad after a month’s layoff, is deemed unfit, despite taking part in training drills on Sunday. The Ranchi-born is not yet fully recovered from the injury and will sit out in the series opener.

The 32-year-old Dhoni is likely to return for the second Test in Brisbane, after gaining full fitness, slated to take place on December 17. Dhoni spent considerable amount of time in nets, but he is not fit to keep wickets.
