India’s four-match Test series will be Anil Kumble’s first assignment as an Indian coach. Kumble has been recently appointed India’s head coach for a period of one-year and he has a lot to prove in coming days.

The newly-appointed Indian coach is not setting any targets for the tour, which is starting July 9, with practice matches. Kumble said he is currently focusing on the camp that will commence later this month.

“It’s too early. I don’t want to get into those specifics,” Kumble said. “I’m looking forward to meeting all the players and then understand each other. The camp is starting on June 29, that’s what I’ve been told.”

The former Indian Test captain has been given a one-year contract. His performance will be analysed during that period by the Indian Cricket Board (BCCI).

“We can put together a proper plan for the next three years,” the Indian team coach said. “Of course I’m in charge for one year, but I think it’s important to plan beyond that as well.”

The coming season is crucial for the Indian team. India are playing as many as 13 Test matches and then the Champions Trophy next year. This will certainly Test Kumble, who don’t have much experience of coaching.
