New Zealand are set to commence new season, with an aim of continuing their World Cup form, against England in the 1st Test of the two-match Test series. It would be a tough task for the kiwis to get back in the Test colours after months of limited-overs action.

“You always want more, but you have to understand the landscape of your season,” Brendon McCullum said. “We are happy. Yes, the IPL players would have liked a bit more but we have been playing cricket in pressure environments.”

“The guys are very professional,” he added. “There are challenges coming from the IPL but it was only last year when he went to West Indies and got 500 in the first innings, so it can work as a positive as well. It’s certainly not an excuse.”

England are at advantage, despite selection controversies and other off-field dramas, but the Black Caps are no pushovers, even though they have not played Tests for a while now.

The Black Caps have a scary bowling line-up, featuring the likes of Tim Southee and Trent Boult, who are more than capable of dismantling any batting line-up of the World. And, the English conditions are only going to help them.

“It’s always a nice feeling to come to Lord’s, I’m lucky that it’s my third Test here,” Southee said. “I’ve had mixed Test matches but it’s always nice to come back to a ground where you’ve had success. But you start on zero again on Thursday.”

England (probable): Alastair Cook (c), Adam Lyth, Gary Ballance, Ian Bell, Joe Root, Moeen Ali, Ben Stokes, Jos Buttler (wk), Mark Wood, Stuart Broad and James Anderson.

New Zealand: Tom Latham, Martin Guptill, Kane Williamson, Ross Taylor, Brendon McCullum (c), Corey Anderson, BJ Watling (wk), Mark Craig, Matt Henry, Tim Southee and Trent Boult.
