In a thrilling match at the Sharjah Cricket Stadium, Virgo Super Kings have booked their place in the semis of the Masters Champions League, beating Capricorn Commanders in their last league game.
The Super Kings displayed a superb performance with the ball to defend an under-par total on a flat Sharjah deck, and defeated the Commanders by 12 runs.
Sri Lankan leg-spinner Malinga Bandara was the pick of the bowlers for Virgo, and turned the game for his team by dismantling the Capricorn’s top-order.
Speedster Brett Lee also rose to the occasion in the death overs and picked two crucial wickets to put brakes on the Commander’s innings.
Earlier, the Super Kings posted 131 on the board thanks to stand-in skipper Neil McKenzie and Hasan Raza, who played gritty knocks.
In replay, despite a scorching start, the Commanders could only manage to score 119 in their stipulated 20 overs, and crashed out of the Masters Champions League.
