The Indian contingent, aptly named “Bharat Army”, at the SCG has come up with a chant for the Indian wicket-keeper humorously acknowledging his “all-round” skills.
The song goes:
“He’ll hit you for a six
He’ll babysit your kids
We’ve got Rishabh Pant!
We’ve got Rishabh Pant! ”
Ever since coming into the side for an out of form Dinesh Karthik in England, all Rishabh Pant has done is impress. He is competent with the gloves and bats with a positive mindset. Above all, he has started performing the traditional duties of a wicket-keeper. His chats with the Australian batsmen in the series show it all.
Not only it energizes the teammates around him, but it also imposes upon the oppositions, a newfound culture that does not mind dishing the verbals back. However, Pant’s batting has stood out amid all the hype about his presence in the side. Initially a tad reckless, he is now coming of age and has batted with increasing maturity in the series.
Easily one of the best batters in the series, Pant scored a scintillating 159* at the Sydney Cricket Ground. While his runs came off just 189 balls, there was restraint visible early on when batting with Cheteshwar Pujara. All these traits have made him an immediately likable cricketer among the fans.
