India vs Australia 2017: ICC Match Referee Chris Broad Terms Pune Pitch ‘Poor’

ICC match referee Chris Broad has rated pitch used in the 1st Test ‘poor’. Broad has submitted his report to the ICC after the conclusion of series opener at the MCA Stadium. The match got over inside three days.

The ICC will now review the footage of the match to determine whether the pitch was substandard or not.

ICC in a statement informed: “It was agreed that a system of demerit points be introduced, similar to the new Code of Conduct system. Demerit points will remain active for a rolling five-year period.”

“When a venue accumulates 5 demerit points, its ICC accreditation will be suspended for a period of 12 months. Should a venue reach 10 points, its accreditation will be suspended for 24 months.”

ICC’s pitch and outfield monitoring process:

  1. The pitch offers excessive seam movement at any stage of the match.
  2. If it displays excessive unevenness of bounce for any bowler at any stage of the match.
  3. The pitch offers excessive assistance to spin bowlers, especially early in the match.
  4. The pitch displays little or no seam movement or turn at any stage in the match together with no significant bounce or carry, thereby depriving the bowlers of a fair contest between bat and ball.
