Batsmen scoring freely on a flat track is one thing. But allowing them to score 399 on Day 1 is simply poor bowling.

The Indians thrashed Sri Lanka on Day 1, and the credit mostly goes to Shikhar Dhawan. Dhawan celebrated his return to the Test side with a scorching hundred in Galle. He bamboozled the Lankans with his scorching century.

Dhawan was unfortunate to have missed out on a deserved double hundred. But, nonetheless, he ensured that India walk way with all the advantage on the opening day. He scored a magnificent 168-ball 190, featuring 31 boundaries.

This didn’t get easy for the Islanders after Dhawan’s departure. Cheteshwar Pujara took the baton from him, and scored an unbeaten hundred. He had added 133 runs with Ajinkya Rahane when the stumps were taken.

Pujara was also involved in a massive 253-run partnership with Dhawan. By the look of the way Indians batted on the opening day, it seems that the game have already gone away from Sri Lanka’s reach.

The Islanders tasted just three successes in the day in Abhinav Mukund, Dhawan and Virat Kohli. Mukund (12) failed again, while Kohli’s (3) poor run continues. Nuwan Pradeep was the most successful bowler with three wickets.
