Shahid Afridi Retirement: Match Against Australia Could Be My Last

Shahid Afridi, after losing to New Zealand, said that his side’s next game against Australia could be his last in Pakistan colours.

The Pakistan captain looked disappointed after losing the match from a winning position. During the chase he was looking frustrated while sitting in the dugout.

“We keep repeating our mistakes, it’s not good for our team,” Afridi said in the post-match presentation. “I have got to play the last game of my career.”

This is Pakistan’s second loss in a row, as they earlier lost to India at the Eden Gardens on Saturday. This result has virtually put the green-brigade out of the World T20 2016 semifinal contention.

The former champions were off to a flying start with Sharjeel Khan and Ahmed Shehzad in a chase of 181, but lost the way once their openers were dismissed.

Pakistan’s middle-order, featuring Umar Akmal, Khalid Latif and Shoaib Malik, never got going against the Blackcaps, and they eventually lost the match by 22 runs.

Afridi, however, tried to revive the innings by again playing a scorching innings, but once he fell it all ended for them. He made a nine-ball 19.

“Easily we could have scored more than six but we didn’t,” Afridi insisted. “We tried to hit the ball, tried to go for the boundary and we played a lot of dot balls.”

“Every game we are making the mistakes,” the Pakistan captain concluded. “We have to forget this game and focus on Australia.”
