Rising Pune Supergiants Have all Match-Winners: Ajinkya Rahane

In the opening match of the Indian Premier League season nine, Rising Pune Supergiants showed they are a force to reckon with after thrashing Mumbai Indians.

It was an allround performance from them, as after the new-ball bowlers dismantled Mumbai’s top-order in the powerplay, the spinners and slow bowlers did their job.

Later the batsmen, led by Ajinkya Rahane, did their part as the visitors cruised to an easy nine-wicket win with 32 balls to spare. Not only Rahane, but Faf du Plessis and Kevin Pietersen also batted brilliantly.

“All world class players,” Rahane said. “All are match-winners, KP (Kevin Pietersen), (Steve) Smith, Dhoni, and we are trying to learn many things from them.”

MS Dhoni, captain of the Supergiants, praised his players after the match, while also applauding the efforts of the support staff.

“This gives us an opportunity to give us some time to interact together, its a fun-loving bunch, the support staff have also put in a lot of effort,” Dhoni said.

The Supergiants, after making a winning start, are now set to face the Suresh Raina-led Gujarat Lions in their second match of the tournament in Rajkot on April 14.
