India skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni has added another feather to his hat by becoming the most-capped wicketkeeper in whites for Team India. The ongoing Test match between Australia and India at Gabba is MS Dhoni’s 89th match as a wicketkeeper.
The Indian captain, who made his Test debut against Sri Lanka in 2005 at MA Chidambaram Stadium, surpassed Syed Kirmani’s record of 88 matches. Out of the 89 matches, Dhoni has captained the side in 59 matches.
Dhoni scored his first century in whites against Pakistan in Faisalabad in only his fifth Test match. His 224 against Australia in Chennai is the highest individual score by an Indian wicketkeeper-batsman.
The Ranchi-born has scored 4841 Test runs, including his 33 runs in Brisbane Test’s first innings, featuring six centuries and 33 half-centuries. He averages 38.42 in the longest version of the game – highest by any Indian wicketkeeper-batsman, who has played more than five Tests.
