Axar Patel is another cricketer, who is a find of the Indian Premier League, and has lived upto the promise at the international stage as well.
The Gujarat-born was awarded for his promising performances in the Indian Premier League, domestic circuit, with a place in the India squad for the World Cup 2015.
Axar, however, didn’t get a game to play in the World Cup owing to the presence of more experienced all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja in the squad.
The left-arm spinner recalled the World Cup, saying despite not featuring in the playing XI he is not disappointed, as he got the backing of Captain Cool MS Dhoni.
“Moreover, I was an important member of the squad and MS Dhoni told me so,” Axar Patel said. “He said that even if I wasn’t playing in the first eleven, my role actually increased in importance.”
“He said that I can be called up any time and should be match-fit,” he added. “So he told me that I cannot afford to be disappointed at not playing, but instead, it is my job to keep working hard and be ready if called up. And that’s what I did.”
