The eve of Holi witnessed the Indian cricket team pull off a miraculous win over Bangladesh. The match turned out to be a real nail-biter and the men at the centre gave spectators total value for ticket money!
Despite the eventual win, the Indian team’s performance wasn’t without its blemishes though. After losing the toss the hosts got off to a very mediocre start with the bat, lost wickets at regular intervals and even dropped dolly catches while fielding.
In the end India got it together and cliched victory. It wasn’t case where Bangladesh didn’t deserve to win. It was case where the Cricket God didn’t want India to lose.
What actually made the difference was the presence of mind Dhoni showed by sprinting towards the stumps to run Mustafizur Rahman out, off Hardik Pandya’s last ball, instead of throwing the ball.
India may have won the match by a solitary run, but the win was greeted with loud cheer as if the World T20 Championship was already in the bag. This may well lead to bigger things for the Indians during this tourney.
Now the public is no stranger to cliffhangers in international cricket. However fans of the boys in blue have not witnessed something so thrilling for a long time. Consider this – three wickets in the last three balls of the match! This is straight out of a fairy tale.
Just when Bangladesh were all set to take sweet revenge over India after the Asia Cup final loss, a chain of dismissals changed things around. This thought shall give many a fan goose bumps for a long time to come. And isn’t that what good cricket games are about?
