The Indian cricket team will be touring Zimbabwe without any coach, as the Indian Cricket Board (BCCI) has set a June 10 deadline for the applications.

India’s limited-overs tour is slated to start from June 11, which effectively means the Indian team will not be having any head coach with them in Zimbabwe.

The BCCI, however, is likely to appoint the Indian cricket team coach ahead of facing West Indies in the Caribbean in a four-match Test series, starting in July.

“We will advertise for the post of coach today and by June 10 anyone can apply and shortlisting will be done after that,” Anurag Thakur, BCCI president, said.

“We are keeping it open, we want people to come,” he added. “They can come forward, apply and then we can look at the proposals, who are the applicants and who are best for BCCI.”

Even former India captain Sourav Ganguly has said that it is unlikely that the Indian team will be getting a coach ahead of the Zimbabwe series.

Ganguly, who is on BCCI’s advisory panel, along with VVS Laxman and Sachin Tendulkar, said that the coach will be appointed in a next couple of months.

“It will happen in the next couple of months,” Ganguly insisted. “I am not too sure if it happens before the Zimbabwe tour because it is not too far away.”
