Just when it looked like things couldn’t go any worst, New Zealand hit a new low. But, thanks to Tom Latham and Tim Southee, they managed to post a fighting total in the opening match of the series.
Meanwhile, the Indian bowlers pressed the Blackcaps hard and bowled splendidly well, initially. Hardik Pandya, Umesh Yadav and Kedar Jadhav demolished the visitors, as India asserted their supremacy in the ODIs too.

Latham and Southee stitched a 71-run partnership for the tenth wicket. They brought the visitors back into the contest. Southee, in particular, counterattacked the Indian bowlers, who were on song.
He become the first Kiwi to score a fifty batting at number 10 in the ODIs. Latham, meanwhile, kept the one end anchored. He showed his teammates that there were no ghosts on the Dharamsala pitch.
Apart from Latham and Southee, no New Zealand batsman showed the resilience. The visitors were eventually bundled for an under-par total. They set a 191-run target for the Indian team.
The Blackcaps were blown away by Pandya and Yadav with the new ball. Pandya was on his ODI debut, and picked three wickets in the match. Amit Mishra took three, while Yadav and Jadhav took two each.
