The Indian cricket team is in good form. The way they are going about their business, MS Dhoni and his men are emerging as a force to reckon with.

They simply can’t put a foot wrong. After winning successive series against Australia and Sri Lanka and then conquering the Asia Cup in Bangladesh, the hosts started their World T20 campaign with a bang.

It was the first practice match India came out with flying colours. The hosts beat a formidable West Indies team by quite a handsome margin of 45-run at the Eden Gardens.

On mutually agreed terms, India batted first and made 185 for six in 20 stipulated overs and, in reply, the West Indies were bowled out for 140 in 19.2 overs.

Since it wasn’t an official game, India didn’t use the services of Virat Kohli and Ashish Nehra. But it didn’t make much difference to the end result.

Because India’s opener Rohit Sharma made the most of his favourite Eden pitch. He made an unbeaten 98 off 57 balls with nine hits to the fence and seven sixes.

It was another Rohit special at the Eden Gardens. He got some support from Yuvraj Singh (31 off 20 balls) and Shikhar Dhawan (21 off 17 balls) to take the Indian score to a commanding position.

India also did well with the ball. Starting from comeback bowler Mohammed Shami, Pawan Negi, Ravindra Jadeja to Hardik Pandya – all of them got two wickets apiece.

The highest scorer for the West Indies was Chris Gayle, who was dismissed by Jasprit Bumrah in the fourth over of the chase.

Thereafter, none of the Windies batsmen could find their feet against the disciplined Indian attack and crumbled like a pack of cards.
