The Chennai Super Kings skipper MS Dhoni has been fined 10 per cent of his match fee for making ‘inappropriate public comment’ on umpire’s decision in the post-match presentation.

According to a statement, Dhoni has been charged with a level 1 offence and he has admitted of breaching the ‘Code of Conduct’ for players and officials.

“After the Pepsi IPL Qualifier 1 match in Mumbai last evening, MS Dhoni captain of Chennai Super Kings was fined 10% of his match fee by the match referee for inappropriate public comment in relation to an umpire’s decision.”

“Dhoni admitted the level 1 offence (Article 2.1.7 of the IPL Code of Conduct for Players and Team Officials) and accepted the sanction,” the statement reads.

Dhoni was left fuming, and quite rightly, when Dwayne Smith was given lbw by umpire Richard Illingworth in the first over of the innings. The ball had hit directly on the pads of Smith, but was missing the stumps substantially.

The Chennai Super Kings skipper looked displeased with the decision in the dressing room and expressed his disappointment in the post-match presentation. “We lost momentum in the middle, and not to forget Smith got a horrible decision,” Dhoni said.

In the death overs, when the Chennai Super Kings were bowling, both umpires made some close calls, and Dhoni was seen asking questions from the umpires.
