Days before the Kanpur Test began, Mohammed Shami and Bhuvneshwar Kumar were the popular choices for the new ball attack for India. Surprisingly, Bhuvi wasn’t considered for the 1st Test.

In his place, Umesh Yadav got the nod from the team management. Perhaps, dropping Bhuvi wasn’t a wise decision. The team management realized it, made amends before the 2nd Test, and the decision didn’t backfire.

Bhuvneshwar was back in the thick of things and produced one of the best Test bowling spells in recent times. He moved the ball well and most importantly, exploited the Eden Gardens conditions very effectively.

His role in New Zealand’s first innings wasn’t like a guest appearance, as it generally happens with the medium-pacers at home. In other words, Bhuvneshwar was just spot on.

After Indians were dismissed for 316, it was his effort that saw New Zealand losing the momentum completely. He, practically, ran through the Kiwi top and middle order with a outstanding five wicket haul after conceding 33 runs.

He could claim more wickets when the New Zealand batsmen come and bat on Day 3. But, it was a dream for a medium-pacer to take a five-wicket haul in India.

Bhuvneshwar’s critics even said that he is bowling much better than what he did before. He is able to swing the ball at will and looking to keep the batsmen guessing. In between, he wasn’t able to move the ball, which was his strong point. But the new Bhuvneshwar has decent pace and swing.

This is good news for India and, hopefully, the team management won’t ignore him at a time when he is in best form.
