Australia vs India: Shaun Marsh included for 1st Test, Ryan Harris raring to go

Shaun Marsh

Cricket Australia (CA) has included Shaun Marsh in the first Test squad as a cover for skipper Michael Clarke, who is uncertain to play the series opener owing to a hamstring injury. Marsh played his last Test against South Africa this year and is in line to make a comeback, following impressive performance for Western Australia in domestic circuit.

“The National Selection Panel has today advised that West Australian Shaun Marsh has been added to the Test squad as an additional batsman for the first Commonwealth Bank Test,” a CA statement said. “The Australian Test squad will assemble in Adelaide today and tomorrow ahead of the first Test starting on Tuesday 9 December.”

The 31-year-old southpaw scored unbeaten 134 and 111 against Victoria and Queensland, respectively in Australia domestic circuit. Australia squad is slated to assemble in Adelaide on Thursday for the preparations of the first Test slated to take place in December 9.

Meanwhile, pacer Ryan Harris, who is making a comeback, insisted that Phil Hughes’ demise will be back in the mind, but they will take the field with an aggressive approach against the Indian team.

“We’re going to have our mate in the back of our minds – there’s no doubt about that – but when we walk out onto that ground we need to try and focus on our game thoughts, where we need to be to be ready to play,” Harris said.

“We’ll definitely be maintaining our aggression; that’s how we play well,” he added. “That’s what we do. That’s the Australian way so we’ll get back to doing that. It’s what those people I walked past on Wednesday in the procession would want, and what they would expect.”
