Alastair Cook has insisted that he is determined to lead England in the forthcoming 2015 World Cup, despite not getting assurance about his future as England’s ODI captain.

Cook is under fire and there are voices to replace the southpaw as England’s one day skipper, after losing back-to-back series against Sri Lanka and India at home.

Former England captain Michael Vaughan has urged selectors to replace Cook, while ex-teammate Graeme Swann has also raised fingers on Cook’s ability to lead the team in the World Cup.

When asked in the press conference that has he received any assurance from the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) regarding his future, the Essex opener said “No I haven’t”. He, however, added that the team can achieve the desired results.

“While I still want to do the job and still believe I can do it then I will carry on doing it,” Cook said. “If they (the selectors) don’t want to me to do it I’d take it on the chin. We can concentrate on improving. Last time we had a focus like this we got to the Champions Trophy final (in 2013).”

“We’ve got an extended period of working on our games in one-day cricket which we have never had before,” he added. “It’s exciting that we’ve got this opportunity to really take big steps forward in one-day cricket and hopefully do something special at the end of it.”
