Ending speculations of any sort, the Indian Cricket Board (BCCI) made it crystal clear that MS Dhoni will be leading Team India in the World T20 from March 8 to April 3.
Owing to team’s poor form in past few limited-overs series, there were speculations in media about Dhoni’s future as the skipper of Team India.
But, chief selector Sandeep Patil, after selecting the Indian team for the limited-overs series against Australia, ended the guess work, saying that MSD will be leading the team in the World T20.
“We named Mahendra Singh Dhoni as the captain as we wanted to end the speculations in the media,” Sandeep Patil said. “Not only media but players in general should know who will be their leader.”
BCCI secretary, Anurag Thakur called it “fair” to retain Dhoni atleast till the World T20, seeing the way he has led Team India to various triumphs.
“BCCI doesn’t discuss players’ future. Selectors do that with players,” Anurag Thakur said. “He is the most successful Indian captain.”
“He has won two World Cups for India, taken India to No 1 Test rankings,” he concluded. “It is only fair that we name him captain till World T20.”
