World Record! Kiwi Callum Egen smashes 381 not out

Be it Tests or limited-overs matches, the New Zealand pitches are known to assist bowlers and scoring runs is always a challenge, but not for the 22-year-old Callum Egen.

Egen smashed 381 not out in a 40-over a side game at Brockville, yes you read it right three hundred and eighty one not out! The Taieri batsman may very well have created a record and definitely deserves a spot in the record books.

A third division side Kaikorai became the victim of Egen’s wrath as Taieri went on to post mammoth, colossal, gigantic and so on… 510 for three. Interestingly, the scoreboard at the Brockville stopped at 480 but Egen showed no mercy even after that.

“I don’t know if you can really explain it, to be fair,” Egen told Otago Daily Times. “I was just hitting a pretty good ball and thought I’d run the risk of seeing how well I could go and it sort of came off.”

The stylish right-hander was playing as a tailender few years back but with an incredible innings has cemented himself as a top-order batsman. He pilled 20 fours and 43 sixes in his astonishingly-out-of-the-world innings.

Egen almost tripled his previous best score of 138 and piped Brisbane’s James Tull (130-ball 341) and Indian schoolboy Nikhilesh Surendran (334 not out) to become the highest run-getter in an innings.

It is still unknown when Egen’s record will be confirmed but he certainly got a tail to sing in the forthcoming years and he may soon get selected for the senior team.
