Mahendra Singh Dhoni shows no mercy on bowlers while dispatching them in the orbit and two-time World Cup winning Australia captain Ricky Ponting, whose team has faced Indian skipper’s wrath many a times, has praised Dhoni’s big-hitting abilities.
Ponting insisted that when players like Dhoni and West Indian Kieron Pollard are batting no target is big enough as they are more than capable of chasing down mammoth totals.
“If you see the big-hitting guys like Mahendra Singh Dhoni and Kieron Pollard, no target is enough,” Ponting insisted. “If you have them till the end during a chase, you should believe that they can score as many runs as you need.”
“Also, these days teams are having a lot of all-rounders who lend balance to the squad,” he added. “The lower-order batsmen and all-rounders will decide the fate of the next World Cup.”
Australia and New Zealand will jointly stage next year’s World Cup and the former skipper insisted that a final between the men in blue and the Kangaroos will serve as an ideal finale. Ponting, however, with a wry smile, predicted that Australia will clinch the title.
“A final between Australia and India will be the ideal spectacle for the next World Cup,” Ponting said. “Especially with the powerful batting line-ups these teams possess, it would be a dream final next year. Australia will lift the World Cup,” the former skipper added with a wry smile.”
