Warner and Rogers completely outplayed the Indian team by making a 200-run stand and thrashing the bowlers all over the park. Mohammed Shami, Umesh Yadav and Bhuvneshwar Kumar were largely ineffective on a flat deck.

There were a few chances that came India’s way but they failed to cling on to them and were put on the backfoot as the game progressed. Ravichandran Ashwin, meanwhile, managed to create pressure from one end but others leaked runs from other end.

India, however, managed to pick quick wickets in the post-lunch session by getting Warner (101) and Rogers (95) in a space of three runs. But, till then the Australia were in total control, with Shane Watson (10 not out) and Steve Smith (28 not out) at the crease.

Ashwin provided the breakthrough when he got Warner, while Shami castled Rogers when he was caught in two minds and a straight ball from the Indian pacer disturbed the timber.

Earlier, Australia, after winning the toss, have elected to bat first against India in the 4th Test at the Sydney Cricket Ground on Tuesday, with pacer Mitchell Starc coming in place of Mitchell Johnson, who has suffered a hamstring injury.

Meanwhile, India have made as many as four changes in the playing XI as Cheteshwar Pujara, Shikhar Dhawan and Ishant Sharma have been benched, while Mahendra Singh Dhoni has retired from Test cricket.

Suresh Raina has been drafted into the squad, after as many as two years, while pacer Bhuvneshwar Kumar has also been included. Wriddhiman Saha has comes in place of MS Dhoni, while Rohit Sharma has replaced Pujara.

Squad: Australia: David Warner, Chris Rogers, Shane Watson, Steve Smith, Shaun Marsh, Joe Burns, Brad Haddin, Mitchell Starc, Ryan Harris, Nathan Lyon and Josh Hazlewood

India: Murali Vijay, KL Rahul, Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, Ajinkya Rahane, Suresh Raina, Wriddhiman Saha, Ravichandran Ashwin, Mohammed Shami, Umesh Yadav and Bhuvneshwar Kumar.
