India will commence the four-match Test series against South Africa in Mohali.

It is going to be a litmus test, not only for Team India, but for skipper Virat Kohli as well. Kohli did captained India in a couple of Tests against Australia in the absence of MS Dhoni, but a full-fledged series against South Africa would be a different ball game altogether.

India vs South Africa 1st Test Live Score Updates:

The India vs South Africa 1st Test is scheduled for a 09:30 IST (04:00 GMT) start at the Punjab Cricket Association Stadium, Mohali. Viewers can catch the match live on Star Sports 1, Star Sports 3, Willow TV & Sky Sports 3, with live streaming option HERE, HERE and HERE. The live score updates of the 1st Test will be available HERE, HERE and HERE.

After winning the T20 and ODI series, South Africa are in sublime touch, and despite India having the home advantage, it won’t be easy to stop them. Virat Kohli and company will have to bring something special to stop the mighty Proteas.

India would certainly be having the home advantage, and if the Mohali track started turning, it would going to be difficult for South Africa to stop India, despite having the likes of Hashim Amla, AB de Villiers and others.

“At home you should play to your strength and there is no need to hide behind that issue,” Ravi Shastri said. “It has been happening over the years whenever teams have played in their own countries.”

It would be interesting to see what combination India will have for the 1st Test, seeing the inclusion of Ravindra Jadeja. In the last Test, Virat Kohli played with five bowlers, including three spinner, and he might head with a similar combination in Mohali as well.

“It is not about five or four bowlers. It is about having a balance that can get you 20 wickets,” Ravi Shastri said. “It depends on the pitch and weather conditions. In Sri Lanka we needed five bowlers because the heat was oppressive and we could only win that series because we had that additional bowler.”

“One thing you’ll see with this side is that we will play positive cricket and look to play to win. We will not be intimidated by the opposition or their ranking. What we want to do for the next four-five years is look to take every game forward with an aim to win it.”
