India Test captain Virat Kohli has always been in favour of fielding five bowlers, the theory that helped him win his first Test series in Sri Lanka, after losing the 1st Test in the island nation.

Kohli has emphasised on playing five bowlers again in the South Africa Test series, starting November 5 in Mohali, saying that the team needs to pick 20 wickets to win a Test match.

“If you have six batsman, 1 wicketkeeper and score even around 500 runs, there would be a session where you will concede runs and won’t be able to pick wickets,” Virat Kohli said.

“Top five batsmen should take more responsibility. Then you have the wicketkeeper and even if you score 350-400 runs, there is a chance that the five bowlers will get you 20 wickets.”

“The batsmen in the team are in favour of this strategy. I will repeat it’s the bowlers who will win you Tests,” he added.

Playing five bowlers won’t be an issue for Virat Kohli, seeing all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja is back in the team, and is in fine form with both bat and ball.

Team India could go in with three spinners – Ravindra Jadeja, Amit Mishra and Ravindra Jadeja – as Mohali is most likely to start assisting the spinners from Day 1 itself.
