Usman Khawaja Replaces David Warner In Australia ODI Squad

Usman Khawaja has replaces David Warner, who has gone on a paternity leave, in the Australia ODI squad for the one-dayers against India.

Warner’s wife Candice is expecting the couple’s second child in the very near future.

Khawaja will join the team for the next two matches to be played at the Gabba and MCG on January 15 and January 17, respectively.

“Usman has been in fantastic form this season and was unlucky to miss out on a place in our squad for the Victoria Bitter ODI Series in the first place.”

“This call-up is a reward for that form and it is great to have someone of his quality to step into the squad in David’s absence,” National Selector Rod Marsh said.

Khawaja’s most recent innings was 62 for the Thunder against the Melbourne Renegades, and that followed on from his scores of 144 and 56 against the West Indies.

The southpaw scored a couple of Test hundred against New Zealand, before facing a hamstring injury.
