It is Upto MS Dhoni to Decide on Zimbabwe Tour?

The selection committee has left it on MS Dhoni to decide whether he wants to tour Zimbabwe for a short limited-overs series, starting June 11.

Senior players like Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma and Shikhar Dhawan are likely to be rested for the Zimbabwe tour, featuring three one-dayers and two T20s.

The selection committee, however, is likely to make an exception for Dhoni, who has retired from Test cricket, and have a few matches to play this season in the shorter formats of the game.

“There were some seniors, who had made themselves available for the tour,” a top BCCI source was quoted by PTI. “But selectors told them that only exception may be made for Dhoni, who no longer plays Test cricket.”

“The selection committee has left it completely on Dhoni to decide whether he wants to go or not,” the source added. “He is free to opt out as he has also played a lot of cricket.”

Interestingly, the Indian Cricket Team has no limited-overs assignments this season after the Zimbabwe tour, and if Dhoni opt out of the tour he may not feature in any international game until next March.

Dhoni is currently leading the Indian Premier League side Rising Pune Supergiants, which will be playing its last match of the season tomorrow in Vizag.
